Black & White Engineering has walked away with the Sub-Consultancy of the Year accolade and Project Manager of the Year honour for Jean Pierre Hamel at the Construction Week Awards 2019 which was held in Dubai on 4th December 2019 and is extremely proud to add these two awards to the ever growing 2019 list of recognitions.
During the past 2 years, Black & White has been involved with the design and build of several major regional based data centres. As fast track turnkey projects with challenging milestones, the close collaboration and good relationship with the MEP contractors and suppliers, have been fundamental to ensuring that projects are successfully completed on time. This year saw one of our projects joining an exclusive club of facilities that have accomplished Tier III construction certification – a major milestone for the data centre industry in the MENA region.
Judges said Black & White Engineering was “great at rationalising designs, and its whole practice was very professional, driven, and experienced with commercial and value engineering awareness.”
Commenting on securing the award, Associate Director of Black & White, Jean Pierre Hamel said, “It is an amazing feeling. To be recognised by industry experts and our peers – there is nothing more enjoyable than that. It was difficult to get to this moment, but it is great to be a pioneer and lift the first sub-consultancy of the year award of its kind.” Hamel added, “We have diversified our business to stay ahead of the curve. For example, we’ve built a presence in Saudi Arabia and we’ve developed our business in France and Europe. We are particularly proud of our work with data centres and we are proud of our team and what they have accomplished in tight schedules. We have shown our ability to work quickly and efficiently.”
Hamel has more than 24 years of experience – including 4 years in the Middle East – in the project management of complex, multi-disciplinary projects. He has also helped the business cut costs, as well as boost efficiencies for project clients and employers.
The independent panel of judges commended Hamel stating that “he was a very experienced professional and a cost-conscious individual, who is a pleasure to deal with.” Other comments included that Hamel was “fair and impartial” when resolving problems. Commenting on lifting the Project Manager of the Year award, Hamel said, “This is a big joy for myself and for my company too. This is a big achievement for all of us, particularly coming from Construction Week.”
Hamel added, “The team that I’m working with in the company is our biggest strength, and our biggest wealth. It is because of all the people that I’ve worked with on a day-to-day basis, through the big challenges and difficulties, that we have won this award. I am just a representative of my team.”
“Globally there has always been a shortage of engineering talent, however at Black & White we continue not only to hold onto our talent, but to grow our team. We remain a staff owned company and I am very proud of my team and their achievements.” explains Mick Cairns, CEO. “We feel the best talent will always deliver the best results. We have created a culture of excellence in design and service which consistently delivers 90% repeat / referral business.” adds Cairns.
