Engineering futures: Wrapping up UK graduate fairs

24/10/2023

Our participation in the graduate fairs across the UK – Edinburgh, Newcastle, and London – provided us with valuable insights into the dynamic landscape of graduate opportunities in our ever-evolving industry. Our experience at these events highlighted the aspirations and talents of the next generation, reaffirming our commitment to fostering innovation and growth, and positioning ourselves as an industry-leading employer of choice.

We were able to engage with over 300 graduates across the three venues, allowing us to share our global graduate pathway. We were also able to highlight the diverse range of opportunities within Black & White, extending beyond the traditional domains of electrical and mechanical engineering to encompass roles in lead design, sustainability, and business support (shared services). These events served as a platform to emphasise the multidisciplinary nature of our work and the developing landscape of engineering.

Our conversations encompassed a wide range of students at various stages of their university journey. Many were enthusiastic about internship and placement opportunities, seeking early exposure that could eventually pave the way to their dream graduate roles. We received interest from both local and international students.

One unique element that resonated strongly with attendees was the presence of our graduates at the fairs. This approach not only facilitated discussions about opportunities but also allowed us to exemplify the potential career paths within Black & White. It enabled aspiring graduates to connect with their peers, finding their personal experiences relatable and genuine.

At our core, Black & White is more than an engineering firm; we are a people-focused global team. This emphasis on the human dimension of our work was appreciated by those we spoke to. The acknowledgment that it is not just about technical skills but also the ‘soft’ (human) skills side of development resonated deeply with the attendees. Based on feedback we received, we were perceived as a people-oriented, professional business that genuinely upholds its values.

We extend our gratitude to Talentheads and to the organisers for making these events a success. We look forward to embarking on a journey with the talented individuals we met and remain committed to offering a broad spectrum of opportunities in our continuous pursuit of innovation and excellence.

The future of engineering is bright, and we cannot wait to be a part of it. Our future success hinges on the next generation of engineering leaders, and these graduate fairs are the gateway to building that bridge.
