We are proud to be part of the World Wheel Company’s professional team celebrating the recent planning approval at the Spillers Quay location on the banks of the Tyne.
World Wheel Company’s ‘Giants on the Quayside’ development is set to be one of Europe’s best waterfront experiences, located in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is a new destination for leisure, sport, food and drink – built around a 140-metre giant observation wheel, dubbed ‘The Whey Aye’.
The wheel will stand five metres taller than the London Eye, with 60 cabins each holding up to eight passengers. It will be fully licensed and passengers can expect fantastic views across the quayside during the 30 minute ride.
The new leisure destination will also include an amazing 12m ‘Geordie Giant’ sculpture and up to 15 bars and restaurants, set amongst a fully landscaped tree-lined plaza and open social spaces where visitors can eat and drink or just relax and enjoy the views.
Giants on the Quayside caters for the whole family and will feature a children’s play area and offer a wide range of sports and leisure, including 5-a-side football, trampolining, a climbing wall and virtual reality golf.
Working closely with Concept-I, Ryder Architecture and the wider team supporting a world class planning proposal, Black & White Engineering have provided design services that include site wide infrastructure, MEP spatial planning, and complex external lighting proposals and impact assessments.
